Art Students Help Downtown Glen Cove Hop into Spring

Downtown Glen Cove has blossomed for Spring; members of the Glen Cove High School’s National Art Society have adorned the police booth in flowers and bunny rabbits.

The Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) has partnered with the Glen Cove High School again to decorate the police booth. The booth, located on Bridge Street, is decorated in Spring images painted on by the students.

“We are thrilled to be working with the students again to keep the downtown looking good,” said Jill Nossa, Executive Director of the Glen Cove Downtown BID. “There are so many talented students in Glen Cove and we love to be able to showcase them in any way we can.”

Students from the high school came downtown in the fall of 2022 to paint the police booth windows for the holidays, and it proved to be a positive experience that both the school district and the BID wanted to continue. Nadel noted that the district’s Fine & Performing Arts Department of the School District strives to offer authentic arts experiences for students while also working with community-based organizations. The BID has also partnered with the department on designing Downtown Sounds banners, 10 of which were selected last spring, with new student designs coming this summer.

Teacher LeeAnn Palazzo brought eight students to complete the project. The students were: Lila Santamaria, Sofia Sanchez, Phoebe Pinder, Logan Blackburn, Phoebe George, Mason Connelly Schmidt, Aurora Seery, and Natalia Monsale.

“We are so honored to be a part of this partnership with the Glen Cove Business Improvement District and Glen Cove High School,” said Lawrence Nadel, District Coordinator of Fine & Performing Arts for the Glen Cove City School District. “Our students continue to share their visual art talents while exploring their passion for the arts through wonderful initiatives such as these.”
