A Berry Good Time at Tropical Smoothie

People have been going bananas for Tropical Smoothie Café in Village Square. Laura Jankowski opened the first Tropical Smoothie on Long Island in 2006, she has since become a multi-unit franchisee. She has added 100 Village Square, Suite 140 to the more than 25 Tropical Smoothie Café locations on Long Island.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held to welcome the new location to Glen Cove’s downtown area. Citations from the Glen Cove Business Improvement District and Chamber of Commerce were presented as well as citations from elected officials, Glen Cove Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck, Nassau County Legislator Delia De Riggi-Whitton and New York State Assemblyman Charles Lavine.

Tropical Smoothie Café offers sandwiches and wraps in addition to smoothies and juices, and customers can receive smoothies for a reduced price before 10 a.m. The opening of the café last September marked the completion of the commercial property storefronts in Village Square.

“It’s been wonderful to have all of these stores filled and see more activity in Village Square,” said Jill Nossa, executive director of the Downtown BID. “It’s a prime location for our downtown events – people were lining up all afternoon during the Halloween Festival and I hope they get the same type of crowds during Downtown Sounds. I think it’s a very welcome addition to downtown Glen Cove.”

Village Square’s Tropical Smoothie Café was also presented with a reimbursement check from Ann Fangmann, executive director of Glen Cove’s Community Development Agency (CDA), for its participation in the Community Development Agency (CDA)’s sign grant program. The program provides eligible businesses with a grant of up to $1,500 for an approved sign. The Glen Cove Downtown BID and CDA work together to offer grants to downtown businesses to keep the area neat and welcoming for the community.

“As the former Area Developer on Long Island, and a current franchisee of multiple Long Island Tropical Smoothie Cafe locations, Glen Cove has been a breath of fresh air,” said Jankowski. “This community has been extremely welcoming and supportive and we are very happy to be a part of it. We are truly blessed and look forward to serving the local community for many years to come.”
