I have been a photojournalist most of my professional life. I have written and published a novel – Unfinished Business – wrote and published a collection of short stories – Nine Women, Nine Stories – wrote the book and most of the songs for two musicals – Leaving Pleasantville and Amity – and founded a cultural quarterly – Natural Traveler Magazine. Throughout my journalistic career, I have had an obsession with seeing things in photos, which somehow convey messages beyond what is printed on the photo paper: ergo “scattered words” for “frozen images.” Throughout all my forays into artistic and journalistic genres, photography has anchored me to the world around me, from the proximity of my beautiful, ever-growing family to my assignments near and far.
In assembling the photos for this exhibit, I have gone back through the results of those decades of shooting. In retrospect, they are not simply stacks of contact sheets and thousands of strips of negatives, but they reveal a recorded history of my changing perspective on how I viewed what of the world was worth trapping in that flick of a decisive moment. With that recorded history for perspective, I can see that often the story is revealed in capturing the ostensibly ordinary, freezing the instant that would otherwise dissolve into the moving picture, which moves on. Thus, the still- lifes, the frozen images. Soloists, in and of themselves, but then sometimes… sometimes… generating scattered words? I am a writer, after all. Sometimes that begs interpretation, which begs a need to share. This exhibit of my photography is the result.

Based in Glen Cove, NY, I am a Motion Graphics Artist and Photographer with a passion for shaping visual stories across screens and still images. My motion graphics work centers on TV graphics—designing broadcast packages, on-air animations, and clean, purposeful visual systems that communicate information with clarity and impact. I value strong typography, intuitive movement, and aesthetics that support the story rather than distract from it.
My photography is grounded in a cinematic approach to composition and light, often inspired by the natural environments I explore. I frequent local parks, where the shifting textures, quiet moments, and atmospheric changes influence both my still images and my motion work. Whether I’m capturing a moment through the lens or designing a sequence for television, my goal is the same: to create visuals that feel crafted, intentional, and emotionally engaging.
