Everyone was back in town for this week’s Downtown Sounds performance by The Seismatics. Hundreds of people gathered in town to dance and enjoy the vibes.
The night started with a Teen Showcase performance by the Jazz Hands Children’s Theatre. The theatre performed songs from their upcoming performance of “High School Musical,” bringing upbeat spirit and mini basketballs to toss to crowd members.
The Seismatics perform a unique mix of powerful great rock & roll from the classics to modern. And every song has been chosen to make you want to get up and dance and sing along. Expect to hear songs by David Bowie, Aerosmith, The Cure, Tom Petty, Modern English, The Beatles, Simple Minds, The Doors, and more.
Michael Schmidt, on lead vocals, rhythm guitar and harmonica, has decades of performing and recording experience and has fronted several notable groups. Lead guitarist Jeff Levitt has been playing guitar in numerous rock bands for decades, covering everybody from The Beatles to The Allman Brothers and Steely Dan. David Zensky, on lead guitar and vocals, is a Long Island native and lifelong rock ‘n’ roll roller. Bassist Troy Grindle is a multi-instrumentalist best known as a member of Real East End Brass.
Drummer and vocalist Mark Pohl has been honored to play opening sets for rock & roll legends ZZTop, Robert Gordon, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes, The Moving Sidewalks, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies and Lisa Marie Presley. Michael Schmidt and keyboardist Paul Brokaw both write and produce original songs that have been licensed for film, television, and broadcast radio, and published in over 36 countries around the world.
People could take a break from dancing to visit the vendors lined up down School Street and kids played freely behind the stage.
Again this week, Downtown was brimming with yummy food options. Scoop N’ Fruit and Tocolo had grab and go carts set up for a quick stop, or restaurants like La Bussola and Meritage Wine Bar are open for a sit down meal away from the music. Looking for a deal? Noble Savage and Mad Chicken coupons could be found inside the Downtown Sounds program and QR codes with a list of food options and online ordering were available.
What we like about the Downtown Sounds concert series is that it returns on Friday with Unforgettable Fire, a U2 tribute band. A Tony worthy Teen Showcase performance will take place before the concert at 7pm by the Broadway on the Beach performers.
The Downtown Sounds concert series takes place every Friday night in July and August at 7:30 p.m. in Village Square. Thank you to The Downtown Cafe for being July 18’s restaurant sponsor.
