Glen Cove residents have a new option for spa services right downtown. The Glen Cove community celebrated the grand opening of its newest business, Threading & Beauty Lounge, on Nov. 17 with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The salon, at 34 Glen Street, offers an array of luxury spa services, from facials to eyebrow threading, waxing to lash lifts, microblading to ear candling. Aesthetician and manager Gurmeet Khaneja—who goes by Dolly—has been working as a stylist for eight years and is looking forward to establishing herself in Glen Cove.
“I love what I do,” Khaneja said. “So far, my customers leave happy and are coming back.”
While many people are aware of the benefits of facials and waxing, they may not be as familiar with eyebrow threading or ear candling. “Ear candling painlessly extracts excess earwax,” Khaneja explained. “It also relieves pressure from behind the eardrum, sharpens mental functions like vision, hearing, taste and color perception, eases earache, headache and sinus pressure, and can assist with allergy symptoms.”
Eyebrow threading, she clarified, is an alternative to waxing or tweezing. “By using a piece of thread,” she said, “hair can be swiftly removed from the delicate areas of the face.”
Co-owners Kulraj Singh and Ramzan Keshwani, who both live in Floral Park, signed the lease on the location in February and did a complete renovation of the former shoe shop. The space has two private rooms for facials and body waxing and chairs both in the front and back to accommodate customers for other services. They put in new floors, lights and sinks to create an open yet luxurious feel. They had been hoping to be able to open last spring, and after many hurdles, finally opened on Sept. 9.
“We’re very happy to be here,” Singh said. “We’ve gotten good reviews and people say they’re glad to have these services closer. Many have said they used to go to Hicksville for eyebrow threading.”
Singh noted that the process of opening the storefront was stressful –and costly—but he’s grateful for the assistance provided by Patricia Holman, executive director of the Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District.
“I’m so thankful for Patricia’s support,” Singh said. “There were times when I thought we would just give up.”
“The Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District is here for all of our current and incoming businesses, to advocate for them and support them in any way that we can,” Holman said. “It was our great pleasure to be helpful to Threading and Beauty Lounge and we are thrilled they are open.”
To show further support, local elected officials and members of the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce attended the ribbon cutting and presented citations, including Mayor Pam Panzenbeck, Assemblymember Charles Lavine, Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, Deputy Mayor Donna McNaughton, Councilwomen Danielle Fugazy Scagliola and Marsha Silverman, and representatives from Sen. Jim Gaughran’s office. Family members and friends also joined the celebration, and attendees were treated to a lunch spread that included Indian cuisine.
In the coming weeks, customers will also be able to get manicures and pedicures with nail specialist Nimani Ortiz of Krave Nail Factory. Ortiz, who will be working as an independent contractor for the salon, is currently gathering all necessary supplies and is hoping to start Dec. 8.
“I’m super excited to get up and running,” she said. “I’m fairly new and am looking forward to building my clientele.”
