Downtown Glen Cove had sunshine after cloudy days on Friday. The skies cleared and this season’s largest crowd showed up to enjoy Downtown Sounds. People all over the town joined in to dance and sing along to A Decade of Soul.
Since 2009, A Decade of Soul has been taking thousands of Motown and ’70s Soul fans on a musical journey, taking them back in time.
A Decade of Soul is a tribute to the greatest Classic Soul artists of all time, performing timeless platinum hits from Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Gladys Knight, Otis Redding, The Supremes, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Jackson Five, to Ike & Tina, Sam & Dave, Barry White, and Donna Summer.
ADecade of Soul is a high energy, interactive concert that was running on Broadway in Times Square for over ten years.
This year The Glen Cove Downtown BID has been working to make Downtown Sounds more fun for the whole family. On Friday nights vendors line the side street and games bring families some competitive fun. During the concerts you can stop in for whatever food you may be craving, from a sweet treat at Henry’s or Scoop N Fruit to authentic Salvadoran food at El Tazumal, ramen at Kiko Ramen or fried chicken at Mad Chicken, and much more.
The Downtown Sounds concert series takes place every Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Village Square. The next concert will be August 23 with Jose Trombone & Conjunto Rumbon, a salsa gorda group. The Glen Cove Downtown B.I.D. thanks Oak and Vine for being August 16’s restaurant sponsor.
