Downtown Glen Cove sailed away Friday with Arena Rock Tribute. Rows of listeners let the band know what love is, having drawn the largest crowd yet this summer. Kids were jumping along, and people took to the dance floor to show off some moves.
Arena Rock Tribute is a classic rock tribute band featuring music from iconic bands who helped define the era in the ’70s and ’80s including Queen, Journey, Styx, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Van Halen and The Who. A.R.T. performs rock blocks of these bands’ greatest hits with undeniable energy and precision that makes for an exciting evening of music for all ages.
Friday’s Teen Showcase featured performances by members of the Jazz Hands Children’s Theatre’s production of Mean Girls. The play may be mean, but the performance was anything but. Cast members performed four high energy songs warming up the crowd for the band to come.
Again this week, vendors lined the side street handing out information, snacks and more; games brought families some competitive fun. People were able to help themselves to a drink, food or a treat at the many restaurant options downtown.
The Downtown Sounds concert series takes place every Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Village Square. The next concert will be August 2 with Panic, a power pop group. The Glen Cove Downtown B.I.D. thanks The Downtown Cafe for being July 26’s restaurant sponsor.
