Despite the threat of rain Milagro brought the Santana sound to a dry and warm downtown Glen Cove.
Milagro has been entertaining the tri-state and beyond since 2005, bringing over 5 decades of hits from Carlos Santana and his musicians. They perform all the award-winning crossover hits that blend rock, blues, funk, Latin, and jazz. The original idea of Milagro was to accurately reproduce the music by staying as close to the original arrangements as possible, while at the same time, spreading the joy of Santana’s music to new and old fans alike.
Friday’s concert also introduced the first ever Downtown Sounds Teen Showcase. The BID has revamped the Teen Idol competition into a showcase to highlight MORE local teens and their varied talents in the arts. At 7 p.m. before the concerts cast members from the Glen Cove High School Masquers’ production of “The Little Mermaid” performed three songs from the show.
The Glen Cove Downtown BID collaborated with art students from Glen Cove High School for a second time this year to design new banners for Downtown Sounds. During the Teen Showcase, the B.I.D honored the art students that designed banners. The pieces were displayed in a mini gallery that remained up during the full concert and the banners will be showcased on lampposts throughout downtown until November.
This year The Glen Cove Downtown BID is working to make Downtown Sounds more than just concerts. Friday night vendors lined the side street and games brought families some competitive fun. Again, Henry’s remained open for ice cream, and people could order from Tocolo Cantina’s exclusive picnic menu at a table outside of the restaurant for faster takeout service.
The Downtown Sounds concert series takes place every Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Village Square. The next concert will be July 19, with country music by The Rustlers. Come Downtown at 7 for our next Teen Showcase performance by Glen Cove Finley Middle School’s cast of Aladdin. The Glen Cove Downtown B.I.D. thanks Tocolo Cantina for being July 12’s restaurant sponsor.
