BEAUTIFIES DOWNTOWN WITH FLOWER BASKETS
Glen Cove, NY – The Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District purchased 83 hanging flower baskets to grace the light poles of the downtown commercial district.

Three extra-large baskets make a dramatic impact at the parking plaza in front of City Hall.

Working with the City’s Beautification Commission, the baskets are installed and maintained. This is the twelfth year that the Downtown BID has provided live plants for the downtown.

The beautiful new baskets, supplied by F&M Farm of Melville, NY, contain a special variety of pink begonias, created to withstand hot dry conditions. Over the course of the summer, the baskets continue to fill out. While the Beautification Commission water truck comes around twice a week to water them, hanging baskets are notorious for quickly drying out.

“It would help us and the City tremendously if businesses would assist with the watering of the baskets that are in front of their establishments,” said Downtown BID Executive Director Francine Koehler. “We are hoping our downtown business owners will ‘adopt’ their baskets by providing a drink now and then during the heat of the summer.”
