We will remember the 30th day of August as thousands of people gathered at Downtown Sounds to groove to D’votion an Earth, Wind and Fire tribute group.
The streets of Downtown Glen Cove were overflowing as D’votion closed out the Friday night concerts. People packed in to turn the town into a boogie wonderland. Guests put on their dancing shoes and took to the streets to dance, eat, play or just hangout. Attendees could also get their faces painted for free by a face painter provided by the Glen Cove Downtown B.I.D.
The concert kicked off with another Teen Showcase performance. This year the Teen Showcase debuted, highlighting talented local teens. Friday’s performance featured four talented soloists. Soloists were Kendall Mathews and Emma Filardo, both from Center Stage Music Center in Westbury and Massapequa Park, Heather Alvarado from Glen Cove, and Phoenix Castle from Deer Park. Each soloist performed two songs to warm the crowd up for the band.
D’votion is a group put together by Glen Cove’s own Marvin Floyd. In 2022 renowned keyboardist, composer and producer Floyd revamped the Marvin Floyd Band and started an Earth, Wind & Fire tribute band, D’votion.
Floyd founded Nivram Productions, an entertainment production and recording studio in Glen Cove. In 2022 Marvin opened the New Nivram Production Studio in downtown Glen Cove.
He has performed with musical legends like The O’Jays, Lou Rawls, Freddie Scott, and Aretha Franklin. Floyd performed with Ashanti for many years as her musical director and was presented the Millennium Tour 2021 Award of Excellence for his work with her.
In 2022, Floyd received recognition for his work on the album DABABY featuring The Baby, Megan Thee Stallion and Ashanti.
Floyd is a proud member of the Glen Cove community and has always welcomed the opportunity to perform locally.
Downtown Sounds is more than a concert. In addition to great music and groovy dance moves, this year you can stop by the concerts for freebies, food and treats, games and face painting.
Glen Cove Hospital Northwell Health, Rallye Lexus and the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce all set up tables to hand out free goodies, tasty snacks and raffles.
During the concerts you can stop in for whatever food you may be craving, from a sweet treat at Scoop N Fruit to authentic Salvadoran food at El Tazumal, ramen at Kiko Ramen or fried chicken at Mad Chicken, and much more. Tocolo Cantina had their exclusive Downtown Sounds picnic menu and Henry’s remained open late to sell ice cream.
