Downtown Sounds kicked off Friday with blaring horns and swinging tunes. The Dance Mechanics got the concert series to a jazzy start, proving that Glen Cove doesn’t let the rain get it down.
On and off rain showers held the threat of cancellations, but despite a warning from the sound crew the excited audience was sure to keep the party going. After confirming it was safe to continue the show went on, ending only 15 minutes early.
Rain wasn’t the only thing coming down on Friday; The Dance Mechanics took to the streets to throw out shirts and perform amongst the crowd of people.
The Dance Mechanics are an extraordinary 12-piece band hailing from Kings Park. These talented musicians bring the party wherever they go, offering an incredible show that will leave you in awe.
With their high-octane energy and a dynamic 4-piece horn section, The Dance Mechanics know how to get the crowd on their feet and keep them there all night long. Their lineup includes not one, but four sensational lead singers, ensuring a diverse range of musical styles and genres that will appeal to every taste. From soulful ballads to infectious pop hits, they’ve got it all covered.
This year The Glen Cove Downtown BID is working to make Downtown Sounds more than just concerts. Friday night vendors lined the side street and games brought families some competitive fun.
Downtown Glen Cove welcomed some new food options this year as well. Stop in during the concerts to grab something new and exciting or tried and true. For a sweet treat to eat in the street, Henry’s on Glen Street will remain open during the concerts for ice cream; for something healthier, Tropical Smoothie Café is open in Village Square, or for something right in between Scoop N’ Fruit opened on School Street. If you’re feeling like a meal, Downtown is full of its usual restaurants, and some new. Tocolo Cantina in Village Square is open for its first Downtown Sounds season; they are offering an exclusive picnic menu at a table outside of the restaurant for faster takeout service.
The Downtown Sounds concert series takes place every Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Village Square. The next concert will be July 12, with Santana music by Milagro. The Glen Cove Downtown B.I.D. thanks La Bussola for being July 5’s restaurant sponsor.
