Decorating For The Holidays

GLEN COVE DOWNTOWN BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT DECORATES FOR THE HOLIDAYS

The holiday season is now in full swing and the streets of downtown Glen Cove have a seasonal facelift, thanks to the efforts of the Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District (BID), with help from the City of Glen Cove’s Department of Public Works (DPW) and its Beautification Commission, overseen by Darcy Belyea, director of Parks and Recreation.

This year, the Glen Cove Downtown BID bought new holiday banners to line the streets, installed on the lamp posts by DPW and Beautification crews, who also fashioned the lamp posts with bows and garland. Members of these crews included Manny Grella, Vincent Martinez, Ralph Comintino and Damion Stavredes, who also worked hard to decorate the Tree of Light and deliver the Merry Trees bringing the downtown area to life in time for the Holiday Festival and Tree Lighting. Joe Basile of Basile Electric spent hours stringing lights around the tree and the police booth, transforming it into a Holiday Cottage, which was sponsored by One and Only Dental.

“The Glen Cove BID is dedicated to making the Glen Cove Downtown a beautiful and welcoming place to visit,” said Patricia Holman, Executive Director of the Glen Cove Downtown BID. “None of this would be possible without the help of the city’s departments and we truly appreciate all their hard work.”

The Glen Cove Downtown BID is one of the 40 sponsors of the Merry Tree Festival, with its tree artfully decorated outside the Glen Street office. Residents are encouraged to stroll the streets, check out each of the individually decorated Merry Trees and pay a visit to local businesses. If you make a purchase at any of the participating local businesses, you’ll get a stamp on your Holiday Playbook; bring your completed playbook to the BID office by Jan. 14, 2019, for a chance to win $250.

“Glen Cove has a lot to offer and we hope you support local businesses this holiday season,” added Holman.
