Ghosts and ghouls took to the streets as they paraded through downtown Glen Cove. The Glen Cove Downtown BID’s Halloween Parade and Festival took place Saturday, Oct. 26, where kids were treated to a wickedly good time.
The festival was a thrilling day of trick or treating, music, pony rides, a circus act, bounce houses, cotton candy, games, prizes and contests.
The day began with a parade down School Street, then kids were off to trick or treat at the downtown businesses. With bellies and bags full of sweets, the treats were just beginning. Skeleton children rode ponies and enjoyed the goats in the petting zoo down on Glen Street, werewolves played games for chances to win prizes, zombies danced to the groovy DJ, witches flew in bounce houses, and monsters stuffed their mouths with cotton candy.
To end the event all creature-kind was invited to participate in the costume and pie eating contests. First and second-place prizes were awarded for most creative costume and for best costume in the 0-4, 5-9 and 9-12 age groups. Congrats to Louis Cubas for eating the largest portion of pie in 60 seconds and winning the pie eating contest. For the first year, the BID chose to pre-register contestants. Contestants were able to pre-register online or at the registration table during the event. Each contestant received a number and showed off their boo-tiful costumes. Three judges, all proud sponsors of the contests had the difficult decision of choosing the winners. The judges were Mary Stanco Realtor, Angelina Stanco-Stone of How Can I Help Elder Care, and Melissa Jackson of Glen Cove Oral Surgery.
